Valerii and Liubov Babchenko: A Journey of Survival
Names: Valerii Andriyovych (76) and Liubov Mykhailivna (75)
Hometown: Volnovakha, Donetsk Region

The war struck Volnovakha on February 24th at 2 PM, transforming their lives instantly. Their home was destroyed, leaving them without doors, windows, or roof. For days, they survived in a damaged building, then in a basement of a multi-story apartment with no electricity, communication, or food.

Military personnel helped them evacuate. The chaotic journey separated them temporarily, with Valerii ending up in a Dnipro hospital. Eventually, they reunited and found temporary shelter in Tereblia village, Zakarpattia region.

The Miracle Village became their unexpected salvation. From a life of uncertainty and destruction, they now live in comfort, with all necessities provided. They describe their new home as a “fairy tale” — a place of care, support, and unexpected peace.
