Twice Displaced: Finding Stability At Last

The Demchenko family first fled Donetsk in 2014 when it was occupied, relocating to Mariupol where they thought they would establish a permanent residence. However, in March 2022, after the full-scale invasion, they were forced to evacuate again. They lived in western Ukraine in Truskavets before fortunately moving to Miracle Village in January 2024 for permanent residence.

Their home was destroyed during the fighting, leaving them twice displaced within a decade.

“We are very grateful to have ended up in Miracle Village; here is everything necessary for a normal life,” shares Yevdokiia. “For the first time in ten years, we felt that someone truly cares about us. We feel at home. Thank you.”

Three generations of the family have found safety together, with daughter Tetiana helping residents with limited mobility in the village. After experiencing displacement twice and losing everything they had rebuilt in Mariupol during some of the most intense fighting of the war, they have finally found stability and community that allows them to focus on healing rather than basic survival.
