Returning to Ukraine After Fleeing Through Russia

The Haidash couple found themselves under occupation in Svitlodarsk. In a remarkable journey, they escaped through Russia to Estonia, where they lived for some time. While there, Raisa consulted a doctor and was scheduled for surgery, but faced a year-long waiting list. “We decided to return to Ukraine,” she explains.

They lived in a modular town, completed an application for housing, and received accommodations in Miracle Village, which they are very happy about. Their home in Svitlodarsk was destroyed during the fighting, leaving nothing for them to return to.

“Everything is very good, but [we miss] our native land,” Raisa shares. “Thank you to D.L. Hansen for the housing provided. GLORY TO UKRAINE!”

Despite her husband being wheelchair-bound, Raisa finds purpose in her new community by volunteering with the “Support for Ukrainian Armed Forces” group. After the extraordinary journey of escaping through Russia to Estonia and then choosing to return to Ukraine despite needing medical care, the elderly couple has found safety and appropriate accommodation that meets their specific needs, including Mykola’s disability.
