From Injury to Recovery

From the beginning of the war in February 2022, the Korytski family’s life changed dramatically. By May 5, their home had suffered significant damage, and Nadiia was injured during shelling. They evacuated to Zaporizhzhia, where they moved between rented apartments before settling in a temporary displacement dormitory. Nadiia underwent two knee surgeries during this difficult period.

In November 2023, they completed an online application for housing in Mr. Hansen’s Miracle Village, and by January 2024, they had relocated there. Their home in Chasiv Yar was destroyed during the intense fighting, leaving nothing for them to return to.

“On January 25, 2024, we were warmly welcomed by the village administration and settled in a wonderful house, which we still cannot stop rejoicing about,” shares Nadiia. “In Miracle Village, we constantly receive comprehensive assistance: medical, psychological, and material support from all caring people. Now we have a stable, dignified, and happy life. For this, we are deeply grateful to Mr. Hansen.”

Despite his advanced age, Kostiantyn has joined the volunteer group responsible for village security and maintenance of the automatic lawn irrigation system. After experiencing injury, multiple relocations, and medical challenges, the elderly couple has found not only appropriate housing but also purpose and dignity in their new community.
