Finding Safety After Forced Evacuation
The Kramskyi couple lived in Yamske village from the beginning of the war until March 2024, remaining in their own home despite the dangers. Eventually, they had to leave when forced evacuation began in their area due to the intensification of the conflict along the border with Russia. Volunteers transported them to Miracle Village, where they found safety away from the increasingly dangerous border region.
Their home in Yamske was destroyed during the fighting, leaving nothing for them to return to after decades of village life.
“Life in the village has changed for the better,” shares Ivan. “The living conditions are good, there is medical care — a family doctor visits the village. I don’t know what more one could wish for.”
At their advanced age, after experiencing forced evacuation from the border area where they had tried to maintain their normal lives for over two years of war, the Kramskyi couple has finally found safety and appropriate care. Their story reflects the reality of many elderly Ukrainians who initially resist evacuation but eventually must leave their homes as the conflict reaches their communities.
