From Miner’s Village to Sanctuary
The Lamanov couple lived permanently in their village before the war. Oleksandr worked as a coal miner his entire life, while his wife worked in retail. From the very first day of the war, their village came under attack from rocket artillery and guided aerial bombs. Their house and all farm buildings were completely destroyed, and Russian occupiers have now taken control of their village.
“The conditions here are good,” they share about their new home in Miracle Village. “The community in our village is friendly; we help each other. All living conditions are good. Many thanks to Mr. Hansen and the village management for providing us with housing.”
Despite their advanced age, the wife volunteers with the group supporting the Ukrainian Armed Forces. After losing everything they had built over their long lives together, including their home and agricultural buildings, this elderly couple has found not only safety but also purpose and community in their twilight years.
