From Village Bakers to Finding Hope Again

The Mosiazhenko family lived a productive rural life in Berestove village, where they maintained a household plot with animals and poultry. They also ran a small business baking and selling bread to their community. In May 2022, as artillery shells began landing in their area, living there became dangerous, and they hastily fled their home under bombardment. For a year and a half, they lived in Ivankiv village in the Kyiv region.

Their home in Berestove was completely destroyed during the fighting, leaving nothing for them to return to after decades of village life.

“We arrived at Miracle Village in January 2024, having already lost faith in our entire life,” shares Oleksandr. “But now here in the village, we’ve finally understood that life goes on, and we’ve regained hope for a happy future. We really like it here.”

The couple has found purpose that connects them to their previous experience and brings them joy. “We’ve gotten volunteer work here at the poultry yard, which we really enjoy. We used to work at a poultry farm before. This work suits us well,” explains Natalia. After losing everything, including their livelihood and home, the family has found not only safety for three generations but also meaningful activities that connect them to their past while building hope for the future.
