Prokhozhay Family
From: Bakhmut, Donetsk region
Family members: Volodymyr Oleksandrovych (62), Nadiia Vasylivna (60), and Raisa Mykhailivna (mother of Volodymyr, 87)
Three Generations Finding Safety Together
The Prokhozhay family fled Bakhmut on June 27, 2022, as the fighting intensified in the Donetsk region. They initially found refuge in Kyiv, staying at the modular town in Vasylkiv. While there, they completed an application for housing in Kolonshchyna at the Miracle Village for elderly people, and their application was approved.
Their house in Bakhmut was destroyed during the fierce battle for the city, leaving three generations of the family with nothing to return to.
“We received accommodations with three rooms, providing very comfortable living conditions that we didn’t even dare to dream about,” shares Nadiia. “We feel protected here.”
The family’s story represents the plight of many multi-generational Ukrainian families displaced by the war, with elderly parents requiring care while middle-aged couples face the challenge of rebuilding their lives. Having found safety and comfortable housing in Miracle Village, the Prokhozhay family can now focus on their well-being and supporting 87-year-old Raisa after the trauma of losing their home and experiencing displacement.
