Sisters Finding Safety Together
At the beginning of the war, the Rokhina sisters lived in Vodiane village, Donetsk region. When the conflict began, they evacuated to Ostroh in Rivne region, far from the fighting in eastern Ukraine. In 2023, they relocated to Nemishaieve in Kyiv region, where they shared a rented apartment. Later, they learned about a settlement being built for elderly people in Kolonshchyna village, and on October 20th, they moved into Miracle Village.
Their home in Donetsk region was destroyed during the fighting, leaving nothing for them to return to.
“We are very pleased to be able to live in such a 'Miracle Village' and feel very good here,” shares Vira. “We are fully provided with everything necessary. We receive medical care, psychological assistance, and legal consultations. We are very grateful to Mr. Hansen and his team for taking care of us.”
Finding purpose in their new community, both sisters have become volunteers — Vira with the “Education and Events” group and Iryna with the “Support for Ukrainian Armed Forces” team. After multiple relocations across Ukraine, the elderly sisters have found not only safety and stability but also ways to contribute meaningfully to their new community.
