Survivors of Energodar
Viktor (76) and Anastasia (76) Vinnyk had built a comfortable life in Energodar—a multi-story apartment, a beloved dacha, and a cherished dog that was their source of joy. Viktor, a former bulldozer operator, and Anastasia, a document management specialist, enjoyed a peaceful existence until war shattered their world.
September 2022 brought terror. Russian troops entered the city, a thermal station burned, and fear became their constant companion. With their son in the military, they were forced to evacuate, leaving behind their home, car, and everything they had known.
Displaced to Zaporizhzhia, they struggled with expensive rentals. Their son helped them apply to a resettlement program, first finding temporary shelter in Tarasivka.
On December 17, 2024, they found sanctuary in Senior Chudo Village’s apartment 7.3. Despite Viktor’s glaucoma and leg problems, and Anastasia’s cardiovascular issues, they discovered a new beginning.
Their wisdom for younger generations is powerful: “We’ve survived wars and losses and found a new start. You can overcome any challenge. War taught us that family is most important. Spend more time with your loved ones.”
To Dell Loy Hansen, they offer heartfelt gratitude: “You are an example of how to make the world better. May your efforts bring fruits that bring joy to you and many others.”
Their greatest hope now is simple—to tend a small garden, to heal, and to find peace in their twilight years.
