Finding Peace After Border Bombardment
The Yeremenko couple lived in Velyka Pysarivka village, just 7 kilometers from the border with Russia’s Belgorod region. Both are pensioners, with Vira being a Category II disabled person. For two years, they lived under constant bombardment near the border. In March, after their home was destroyed, military personnel evacuated them to a safer location, where they lived in a house without heating, with temperatures as low as 7 degrees Celsius.
They found their way to Miracle Village thanks to their village elder, who took care of arranging their evacuation and placement. Their home in Velyka Pysarivka was destroyed during the border fighting, leaving nothing for them to return to.
“Our lives have changed in a very positive direction,” shares Vira. “As we are very elderly people who sat at home under bombardment for two years, now our life has become free from shelling. It’s quiet, peaceful, with all conveniences — why not live and rejoice and be thankful?”
Due to their very advanced age, the couple focuses on monitoring their health and receiving medical treatment rather than volunteering. After enduring bombardment in a border village for two years, this elderly couple has finally found the peace, safety, and appropriate care they desperately needed in their final years.
