Zubko Family
From: Berestove village, Donetsk region
Family members: Halyna (67) and Viktor (68)
From Business Owners to Finding New Purpose
The Zubko couple lived in Berestove village for 43 years. They worked at a poultry farm in the commercial department and later became entrepreneurs, owning shops and running their own business. They had retired shortly before the war began.
“The war took everything from us: HOME, FARM, AGRICULTURAL MACHINERY, ALL PROPERTY,” they share with emotion. They evacuated during the bombardment and lived in Vasylkiv, Kyiv region, in a modular town. Now they reside in Miracle Village.
“The conditions are very, very wonderful,” the couple explains. “A sense of purpose has returned. We are provided with everything, and we have the opportunity to work and help each other. We’ve developed a feeling that we’re not alone, that there are people who care about human suffering. We are very grateful for everything. We couldn’t even imagine that it could be like this. Thank you!”
Both spouses have found purpose in their new community. Viktor works as a janitor in the village, while Halyna volunteers in the dining hall. After losing their business, home, and lifetime of accumulated property, the elderly couple has found not only safety but also meaningful work and community that have restored their sense of purpose and belonging.
