Finding Tranquility After Occupation

Halyna Moiseienko lived in the small city of Beryslav in a modest house with a cozy yard filled with flowers, trees, and grapevines. When the war began, she was terrified to remain alone. The occupying forces conducted yard searches and drove tanks through the streets, followed by artillery shelling that damaged her yard and home.

“I made the decision to leave my hometown,” Halyna recalls. With assistance from relatives, she completed an application for housing assistance and received a positive response. Her home in Beryslav was partially damaged during the occupation and subsequent fighting.

“When I arrived at Miracle Village, my life became peaceful,” shares Halyna. “Nice housing, neighbors, and most importantly, it’s quiet — no shooting. I’ve regained hope for a peaceful old age. I express my gratitude to Mr. Hansen for his good deeds. I believe in victory.”

Finding purpose in her new community, Halyna works in her garden plot and helps maintain the area around her house. After experiencing the terror of occupation and the damage to her beloved home and garden, she has found safety and a renewed sense of purpose in tending to the earth and creating beauty in her new surroundings.
