Life Before the War:
Before the war, I lived a quiet, peaceful life in my one-bedroom apartment in Kostiantynivka. Since my retirement in 2008, I dedicated my time to household chores and simple joys—gardening, chatting with neighbors, and taking leisurely walks. I found happiness in little things: observing nature, meeting people, and maintaining a calm daily routine. My dreams were modest but meaningful—to stay healthy, see my loved ones safe, and live in a peaceful country.
Survival and Escape After the War Began:
When the war started, I couldn’t believe it was really happening. On February 24, I went out to pay utility bills and couldn’t return home due to shelling. The fear was overwhelming. I tried to stay in my apartment as long as possible, but when the situation worsened, I fled to Kyiv, where acquaintances took me in. Living in cramped conditions, we all helped each other, sharing what little space we had.
Life Before Senior Chudo Village:
In Kyiv, I stayed with friends, but it was difficult—too many people in a small space, yet everyone did their best to support one another. Then, one day, I received a call from the foundation. At first, I didn’t understand what was happening, but when they told me I was being relocated to Senior Chudo Village, I was overwhelmed with gratitude. They even arranged transportation for me.
Impressions of Senior Chudo Village:
This place is beautiful, peaceful, and has everything needed for a comfortable life. I feel safe here, surrounded by care and support.
Health Condition:
I suffer from stage III hip arthrosis, which makes movement difficult.
Future Plans and Goals:
My wish is to live without constant pain, to move more freely, and to find joy in each new day.
Advice to the Younger Generation:
“Live in a way that leaves no room for regret. Respect your elders, help those in need, and cherish kindness.”
Thoughts on Dell Loy Hansen’s Mission:
I am deeply grateful for this opportunity, for the shelter and support provided.
Message from an Elderly Displaced Person:
What people like me need most is stable housing, access to medicine, and human compassion.
How I Can Contribute to the Community:
For now, I am simply grateful for everything. If there’s any way I can help, I will gladly do so.
