Finding Peace After Multiple Relocations

In April 2022, Larysa Ruban was forced to flee her hometown of Druzhkivka in Donetsk region. She initially found refuge in a village in Lviv region, far from the fighting in eastern Ukraine. By August, she had relocated to Brovary and settled in a modular town set up for displaced persons. Her life took another turn on October 20, 2023, when the Hansen Charitable Foundation provided her with housing in Miracle Village.

When she left Druzhkivka, her home was already partially destroyed by the fighting, and she has been unable to return to assess its current condition.

“I’m satisfied with my life in Miracle Village,” Larysa shares. “The administration treats us with respect and warmth. I have everything necessary for living. I’ve found peace here and feel comfortable.”

At 77, after experiencing the trauma of war and multiple relocations across Ukraine, Larysa has finally found stability and comfort in her new community. Though she doesn’t mention volunteering or employment activities, the safe and supportive environment has provided her with the peace of mind that had eluded her since the beginning of the war.
