Finding Peace in Advanced Age

When the war began on February 24, 2022, Lidiia Medvedieva was living in Vlasivka village. As the situation deteriorated, her son took her to safety in Kyiv, where he rented a room for her. After completing an application for more permanent housing, Lidiia was doubtful that her request would be approved due to her advanced age. To her surprise, she received a call offering her accommodation in Miracle Village.

Her home in Rubizhne was destroyed during the intense fighting in Luhansk region, leaving nothing for her to return to after decades of building her life there.

“All the conditions are comfortable and peaceful,” Lidiia shares gratefully. “People are kind-hearted and always supportive in difficult times. Thank you, thank you to everyone!!!”

Despite being 82 years old, Lidiia contributes what she can to her new community by helping with the “Cleanliness and Order” group. After experiencing displacement and the loss of her home at such an advanced age, she has found not only safety but also purpose and community that have given her dignity and peace in her final years.
