Finding Purpose After Losing Everything

When news of the war arrived, Liubov Lysenko was overcome with fear, panic, and despair. After living in her village for 48 years with her husband, who passed away during the war in 2023, she found herself alone with her grief, sheltering in the basement of their damaged home.

Thanks to caring people, Liubov fortunately found her way to Miracle Village, where she was provided an apartment with all the amenities for comfortable living in peace and dignity. “I’m immensely grateful to the benefactors who don’t abandon people to their fate, but extend a helping hand,” she shares with emotion.

Her home in Bohoiavlenka was destroyed during the fighting, leaving nothing for her to return to after decades of village life.

“In Miracle Village, I feel as if I’m at home,” Liubov explains. “Kind neighbors, new friends, and most importantly, I have a roof over my head and a small plot of land where I plant vegetables and tend to them just like at home. Sessions with a psychologist help me overcome memories of the past. My sincere gratitude to the charitable foundations for their support and assistance.”

Finding purpose that connects to her rural roots, Liubov volunteers with the Garden group, an activity that resonates deeply with her. “This work suits me well. It’s work I love and know how to do,” she shares, finding comfort and meaning in continuing the agricultural traditions that defined her life before the war disrupted everything.
