A Journey of Faith and Resilience
Liudmyla Hureyeva (78), a retired accountant from Toretsk, had lived a life marked by both generosity and complexity. A deeply religious woman, she had supported her stepson, helping him purchase an apartment in Donetsk while navigating family tensions and financial challenges.
The war transformed her world brutally. Seeking shelter in various basements, surrounded by Ukrainian military under constant threat, Liudmyla’s faith became her primary source of strength. “I constantly turned to God, ” she would later reflect, her prayers a lifeline during moments of absolute uncertainty.
Displaced and fearful, she was rescued by kind strangers, never certain where she might end up. The constant uncertainty became her companion—would she be left behind, forgotten?
On November 23, 2024, she found sanctuary in Senior Chudo Village’s apartment 19.4B. Battling health challenges—hernias, gallbladder issues, and cataracts—she discovered more than just a home. She found comfort, warmth, and unexpected hope.
Her wisdom for younger generations is rooted in her profound faith: “Be patient—good things don’t always come immediately. Ask and thank God, for He gives the strength to move forward.”
To Dell Loy Hansen, she offers heartfelt gratitude: “You are an example of true spiritual strength and heart’s generosity. Such selfless help does not go unnoticed.”
Now, she finds purpose by volunteering in the greenhouse, proving that life’s most meaningful chapters can begin at any age.
