From Cellar to Sanctuary

From the beginning of the full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, Liudmyla Myrhorodska remained in Soledar, hiding in her cellar as fighting intensified around the salt mining town. In August, her house was destroyed by shelling, and volunteers evacuated her to Soshniaky village in the Kyiv region, before she eventually found her way to Miracle Village.

Her home in Soledar was completely destroyed during what would become some of the most intense fighting of the war, leaving nothing for her to return to.

“I never thought I would live in such a paradise,” Liudmyla shares with gratitude. “The housing is very good. I’m very thankful to everyone for this accommodation.”

Finding purpose that utilizes her skills, Liudmyla now works as a seamstress in the village. After spending months sheltering in a cellar and experiencing the complete destruction of her home, she has found not only safety but also meaningful employment that allows her to contribute to her new community while using her professional talents.
