Soloviova Family
From: Kherson
Family member: Liudmyla (72)
From Left Bank to Safety
Before the war, Liudmyla Soloviova lived in the Kherson region on the left bank of the Dnieper River. She tended to her garden as much as her health allowed, maintaining an independent life. Until October 2023, she remained in her own home, but as combat operations reached her district, she was forced to evacuate.
Volunteers helped Liudmyla escape through Sumy region, eventually bringing her to Makariv. There, she completed an online application and received an invitation to live in Miracle Village. Her home was destroyed during the fighting, leaving nothing for her to return to.
“Thanks to Mr. Hansen, I have comfortable housing, medical assistance, and psychological support,” Liudmyla shares gratefully. “I work with a psychologist and receive mental health care. I’ve also joined a health group where I practice Nordic walking.”
Despite the trauma of losing her home and being displaced at 72, Liudmyla has embraced her new community, focusing on her physical and mental wellbeing. The structured support and activities available have given her a renewed sense of purpose and community after the isolation and danger she experienced during the occupation of her region.
