Finding Stability After Multiple Displacements
On April 1, 2022, Liudmyla Tymoshenko was forced to flee her home in Vuhledar, a city that would later become known for some of the most intense fighting in Donetsk region. She initially found refuge in Miliorativne, Dnipropetrovsk region, where she stayed for a year at a Baptist prayer house.
Her journey continued in April 2023 when she relocated to Vaselkiv village in the Cherkasy region. By October, she had moved again to Nemishaieve, where she rented a one-room apartment. While searching online, Liudmyla discovered information about the Hansen housing project, completed an application, and in January 2024 moved to Miracle Village.
Her home in Vuhledar was destroyed during the intense battles for the city, leaving nothing for her to return to.
“Life has changed for the better,” Liudmyla shares. “I receive medical and psychological support. I live among sensitive and kind-hearted people as we wait for victory.”
Despite being alone at 73, Liudmyla has found purpose by volunteering with a group that provides support to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, allowing her to contribute to the defense of her country even as she rebuilt her own life after multiple displacements.
