Malike Ahanina: Finding Shelter and Peace
Name: Malike Ahanina Age: 81 Hometown: Dmytrove Village, Donetsk Region and Kharkiv
Born outside Ukraine, Malike came to the country with her father, a doctor. Before the war, she lived an active life — working odd jobs, chatting with neighbors, and enjoying time with her sons. She loved listening to romantic films and maintaining a busy social life.
The war changed everything. A shell strike left her with severe burns, and she spent significant time in a Kharkiv hospital. Afterwards, she was moved to a crowded dormitory where she faced constant challenges — theft, psychological pressure, and difficult living conditions.
On February 5, 2025, Malike arrived at the Senior Chudo Village. Volunteers from the village rescued her from a situation where she felt increasingly isolated and vulnerable. The move was unexpected — she could hardly believe her luck.
Now, she sees the village as a place of hope and healing. Despite her health challenges, including serious burns and a need for psychological support, Malike remains resilient. Her life advice to younger generations is simple: “Be kind, never harm others. Live in a way that avoids conflicts and respects everyone.”
She is profoundly grateful to Dell Loy Hansen, believing that without his help, she might have perished in the dormitory. The village represents more than just a home — it’s a second chance at life.
