A Safe Haven at Last

Nadiia Kovalenko left Lysychansk on April 2, 2022, as Russian forces advanced through Luhansk region. She was forced to relocate to Kvitka village in Kirovohrad region, where she lived for a year. Later, she moved to a modular town in Vasylkiv near Kyiv. In January 2024, she completed an application and received the opportunity to relocate to Miracle Village.

Her home in Lysychansk was destroyed during the intense fighting, leaving nothing for her to return to after decades of building her life there.

“My life has changed for the better,” Nadiia shares. “I’ve been able to obtain not only my own room with all amenities and assistance (humanitarian and psychological) but also the opportunity to live in peace and quiet. I’m very happy that I’ve been able to find wonderful neighbors-friends and a sense of home.”

Finding purpose in her new community, Nadiia volunteers by helping in the dining hall. After experiencing multiple relocations and the destruction of her home, she has found not only safety but also community and meaningful activity that have restored her sense of belonging and dignity.
