From Battlefield Wounds to Renewed Purpose

Oleksandr Kivenko has been without family since 2015. In October 2022, he was evacuated from Avdiivka after being wounded and sustaining a concussion during the intense fighting for the industrial town. He was initially brought to Brovary, and in October 2023, he relocated to Miracle Village.

His home in Avdiivka was destroyed during what became some of the most prolonged and intense fighting of the war, leaving nothing for him to return to.

“Miracle Village is a wonderful place,” Oleksandr shares simply. “I thank the citizens of the United States for their great support of the Ukrainian people.”

Finding purpose in his new community, Oleksandr volunteers with the “Village Security” group. After experiencing combat injuries and losing both his home and hometown to the war, he has found not only safety but also a sense of purpose by contributing to the security of his new community.
