Life Before the War: Born and raised in Bakhmut, Hanna and Mykola met at work and spent their lives together in the same city. They received a central apartment in the 1980s, tended their garden, and enjoyed family life. “We worked hard, rested well, and lived fully.”
Displacement Experience: They spent two months in a basement. After a bombing killed Hanna’s friend, they were evacuated to Dnipro, then to a village in Zakarpattia. Mykola was hospitalized, and they lived with a kind religious family for over a year. When their hosts moved abroad, they had to find new shelter.
Before Chudo Village: After relocating to Sofiivska Borshchahivka, they learned about Chudo Village and applied. “We were ready to move—grateful, but emotionally exhausted.”
Receiving the Call: “The news brought quiet joy. We were prepared, but still deeply thankful.”
Impressions of the Village: “It’s beautiful, clean, and peaceful. We love the nearby lake and forest—fishing is our favorite pastime. This place feels like a gift.”
Health Status: Both experience age-related conditions but do not require specialized care.
Outlook & Advice: “We don’t make big plans anymore.” To the youth: “Stay optimistic. Even in darkness, believe in the light ahead. Hope gives us strength.”
Message to Dell Loy Hansen: “He’s a man of great kindness. He remembers everyone’s story and speaks with warmth. His compassion is unforgettable.”
Support Needed for Seniors: “Medical care is often missing or too far away. That’s the biggest challenge.”
Suggestions for the Village:
- A medical clinic is essential
- A sauna would be a wonderful addition They hope to contribute to the community and stay actively involved.
