Finding Peace After Village Destruction

Before the war, Olha Nikolchenko lived a quiet life in her village of Osokorivka in the Kherson region. When the war began, she was forced to abandon her home as it became uninhabitable due to the fighting. She initially found temporary housing in Kryvyi Rih, where she rented a room in a dormitory.

While searching for more stable accommodation, Olha discovered an application for housing assistance. She submitted it, and to her relief, it was approved, bringing her to Miracle Village. Her home in Osokorivka was destroyed during the fighting, leaving nothing for her to return to.

“Of course, my life has changed for the better: wonderful conditions, support, respect,” Olha shares gratefully. “I’m very thankful to everyone involved for providing such comfortable living arrangements.”

At 70 years old and having lost her rural home, Olha has found security and dignity in her new community. Though she doesn’t participate in volunteer activities, she has found peace and stability after experiencing the trauma of displacement and loss, allowing her to focus on her well-being in a supportive environment.
