Finding Safety After Multiple Evacuations

Before the war, Raisa Halka lived in an apartment in Popasna. When the war began, she was evacuated to Bakhmut, but the conflict soon reached there as well. Volunteers transported her to Dnipro, where she was settled in a dormitory. She completed an application for housing and, after some time, was invited to Miracle Village in Kolonshchyna.

Her home in Popasna was destroyed during what became some of the most intense fighting in Luhansk region, leaving nothing for her to return to.

“I have comfortable conditions in a cozy home,” Raisa shares. “I receive medical assistance and participate in the health group for Nordic walking. A psychologist works with me.”

Finding purpose in her new community, Raisa volunteers with the group supporting the Ukrainian Armed Forces. After experiencing multiple evacuations as the frontline moved through eastern Ukraine, she has finally found stability, appropriate care, and purpose that have improved both her physical and mental well-being despite the trauma of losing her home and community.
