From Conflict Zone to Peaceful Community
When shelling began in Sievierodonetsk, Vira Tarasenko initially remained in her apartment. After shells hit neighboring buildings, she relocated to a safer part of the city. As the situation deteriorated, religious organization volunteers evacuated her to Sloviansk, from where she took a train to Lviv and eventually crossed the border to seek safety abroad.
Vira later returned to Ukraine, settling in Zhmerynka. She learned about Miracle Village, completed an application, and was fortunate to be accepted into the community. Her original apartment in Sievierodonetsk was partially destroyed during the intense fighting for the city.
“Living in Miracle Village provides comfortable conditions with everything necessary: proper housing, furniture, equipment, and kitchen supplies,” Vira shares. “Medical assistance comes through 'medical teams' that provide examinations, diagnostics, and medications. We have access to a family doctor, consultations, treatment, and referrals to specialists when needed. Psychologists and rehabilitation specialists offer support. We can also use the library and community center.”
Finding purpose in her new community, Vira participates in the “Landscaping” volunteer group, helping to maintain and beautify the shared spaces that have become her new home. After experiencing the trauma of war and multiple relocations, she has found both security and community in her new surroundings.
